Safeguarding Policy
Embody Life is committed to creating safe spaces for all participants. This policy outlines our approach to safeguarding.
Our Commitment
We are committed to:
- Creating environments where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued
- Responding appropriately to any safeguarding concerns
- Maintaining professional boundaries at all times
- Continuous development of our safeguarding practices
Scope
This policy applies to:
- All Embody Life facilitators and staff
- All participants in our events and sessions
- Anyone involved in Embody Life activities
Professional Boundaries
Our facilitators maintain clear professional boundaries:
- Sessions are held in appropriate venues during agreed times
- Contact outside of sessions is limited to administrative matters
- Personal relationships with participants are not pursued
- Touch is only used with explicit consent and for specific therapeutic purposes
Recognising Concerns
We are alert to signs that someone may be at risk, including:
- Disclosures of abuse or harm
- Signs of distress or significant emotional difficulty
- Indications of self-harm or suicidal thoughts
- Concerns about a participant’s safety or wellbeing
Responding to Concerns
If a safeguarding concern arises:
- The facilitator will listen without judgement
- They will not promise confidentiality if someone is at risk
- They will explain what action they need to take
- They will document the concern and their response
- They will seek appropriate support (e.g., referring to mental health services)
Support and Referrals
If we believe someone needs additional support, we may suggest:
- Speaking with their GP or a mental health professional
- Contacting a helpline (e.g., Samaritans: 116 123)
- Accessing other appropriate services
We do not provide therapy or counselling within our group sessions.
Working with Vulnerable Adults
When working with adults who may be vulnerable:
- We take extra care to ensure informed consent
- We adapt our approach as needed
- We are vigilant for signs of distress or difficulty
- We maintain clear communication about what to expect
Reporting Serious Concerns
If we believe someone is at immediate risk of harm, we may need to:
- Contact emergency services
- Report to relevant authorities
- Break confidentiality to protect someone’s safety
Training and Development
Our facilitators:
- Have relevant professional training and qualifications
- Engage in regular supervision
- Undertake ongoing professional development
- Are familiar with this safeguarding policy
Complaints
If you have concerns about the conduct of any facilitator or the safety of our sessions, please email [email protected]. All complaints will be taken seriously and investigated appropriately.
